Autumn Silkworm Moth

Often called the Dandelion Moth, Lemonia taraxaci is a fleeting golden ghost of the autumn meadows. While many insects are tucked away for winter, this moth emerges to dance through the cooling air, looking like a toasted marshmallow with wings. It is a rare and seasonal treat for nature lovers, often found resting quietly on sun-bleached grass or dandelion leaves.

🔍 How to Identify

• 🦋 The Wings: Warm ochre-yellow or toasted brownish-yellow wings that look almost velvety to the touch.
• ⚪ The "Eye" Spot: A single, distinct white dot sits near the center of each forewing, providing a sharp contrast to its golden-brown base.
• 🧸 Fuzzy Body: A very thick, hairy thorax and abdomen that give it a cuddly, "teddy bear" appearance. This "fur" acts as insulation against chilly autumn nights.
