Furnace Ants

Known as the "Sun-Seekers" or the Australian Desert Ants, members of the Melophorus genus are the true athletes of the insect world. While most desert creatures retreat underground to escape the blistering midday sun, these ants emerge to forage in temperatures that would be fatal to almost any other animal. They are the outback’s high-speed scavengers, darting across the sand like tiny, orange-tinted lightning bolts.
